Von Karate bis Tortellini - From Karate to Tortelinis

Ein Wochenende voller Aktivitäten mit den Kids liegt hinter mir. Samstag und Sonntag haben fast alle Kinder an einem Karateturnier teilgenommen. Selbst die kleinsten hatten dort die Möglichkeit, ihr Können zu präsentieren. Zu gewinnen gab es neben Geldpreisen vor allem Nudeln und Getränke wir Coca Cola und Fanta-bei allen Kindern gleichsam sehr beliebt. Viele von den Kindern sind gezwungen, das gewonnene Geld ihren Eltern zukommen zu lassen, um deren Überleben zu sichern. Irgendwie ein etwas fader Beigeschmack des Gewinns! Die folgenden Bilder geben einen kleinen Eindruck der Veranstaltung. Die Bildqualität ist leider nicht die Beste!

A weekend full of activities with the kids lays behind me. On Saturday and Sunday most of the children participated in a karate competition. Even the smallest ones did have the chance to show what they have learnt. Besides money the kids were able to win food and drinks such as coke and such. A lot of the children are forced to send any of their prices to their family in oder the secure their survival. That makes me very sad! The following pictures give a little impression of the event. Unfortunalety the picture quality is not the best!

Sonntag abend habe ich mit den großen Mädels zusammen für alle Bewonder des ChildrenHomes selbst Tortellini gemacht. Das war ein ganz schönes Abenteuer. Es hat total viel Spaß gemacht, fast alle Kinder haben das Essen gemocht. Aber nach mehr als 350 selbst ausgerollten Nudeln, bin ich gestern abend ziemlich tot ins Bett gefallen. Aber es hat sich gelohnt. Die Bilder sprechen Bände!

On Sunday night I made homemade pasta with the oldest girls for all of the kids and the staff in the ChildrenHome. That was a pretty big adventure. It was a lot of fun and almost of the kids liked the food. But after more than 350 pieces of pasta I feel into my bed feeling pretty dead last night. But it was for sure worth it. The pictures spreak volumes!

Nachdem ich euch immer mal wieder etwas über das Kinderheim erzählt habe, versuche ich euch heute anhand einiger Bilder einen besseren Eindruck des Hauses zu geben, wo sich ein Großteil meiner ehrenamtlichen Tätigkeit abspielt. Das Haus befindet sich recht zentral in der kambodschanischen Hauptstadt Phnom Penh und bietet zurzeit 29 Kindern sowie 4 einheimischen Betreuerinnen ein Zuhause. Aber seht einfach selbst....

After I have been talking about the childrenshome a couple of times on here, I would like to give you a little better impression of the house that I am working at for most of my voluntary work. The house is located pretty close to the centre of the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. As of now it gives a home to 29 kids as well as four Cambodian supervisors that also live here. But just take a look yourself....

Hochzeit feiern in Kambodscha - das heißt unendlich viel essen und trinken, sich total übertrieben schminken und stylen, tanzen bis zum Umfallen und Traditionen über Traditionen. Das Brautpaar wechselt rund sieben Mal sein Outfit. Die Hochzeit findet in einem "Bierzelt" mitten auf der Straße statt. Alle, die jemals damit geplant hatten, dort vorbei zu fahren, haben eben Pech gehabt. Meistens werden rund 500 oder mehr Gäste eingeladen, die teilweise - meist unpünklich - erscheinen, oftmals nur einen der mehr als sechs Gänge essen, ihr Geschenk abgeben und dann wieder verschwinden. Aber seht selbst .... (Das erste Mal bin selbst ich auf den Fotos).

Celebrating weddings in Cambodia - that means eating and drinking a lot, way too overdressed girls, a lot of dancing and traditions, traditions, traditions. Bride and groom change their outfit at least seven times. The wedding takes place in a big tent that is placed in the middle of some random street. Everybody, who originally planned on driving through that street, has to look for another way. Most of the times there are more than 500 people invited, who sometimes - most of the time not on time - only come to eat one of the at least six courses and give their present and then leave again. Just have a look .... (It's the first time that I am part of the pictures).
