Mensch, verachte den Menschen nicht: Markttreiben und Nachwuchs

Ein Besuch der Märkte der kambodschanischen Hauptstadt gilt als ein Highlight für jeden Touristen. Auf den verschiedensten Märkten kann man nahezu alles kaufen - Klamotten, frisch zubereitere Gerichte, Gemüse und Obst, Fleisch, Souvenirs, Werkzeuge jeglicher Art. Im Vergleich zu Deutschland sind vor allem Obst und Gemüse superpreiswert. Wo schon kann man bei uns auf dem Wochenmarkt eine frische Ananas für rund 35 Cent kaufen? Oder rund 10 kleine Bananen für den gleichen Preis? Im folgenden findet ihr ein paar Fotos, die euch nur einen kleinen Eindruck von einem der sehr überschaubaren, nicht touristisch geprägten Märkte zeigt.

A visit of one of the many markets of Cambodia's capital is said to be one of the highlights for any tourist. At the differen markets people are able to buy almost anything imaginable - clothes, freshly cooked meals, veggies and fruits, meat, give-aways, tools of any kind. Compared to Germany and the United States especially fruits and veggies are extremely cheap. Here you are able to get a fresh pineapple or about 10 small bananas for 50 cents each. I put up some pictures of a very small, local market thats not frequently visited by tourists - just to give you a little impression.

Heute morgen bin ich zusammen mit Anne (deutsch, schon seit 4 Jahren in Kamboscha), Leo (dt. Voluntär), und Davy (kambodschnische Managerin des Kinderheims) auf Land gefahren, um zwei neue potentielle Einwohner des Kinderheims zu begutachten. Wir haben uns also deren jetzigen Lebensumstände angeguckt, und dann zu entscheiden, ob sie als Bewohner in Frage kommen. Lange Reder, kurzer Sinn. Wir haben die beiden Brüder, Long und Dein (so werden die Namen zumindest ausgesprochen), sofort mit ins Kinderheim genommen, wo sie sich jetzt einleben. Einer der beiden Jungs hat in den lezten Monaten bei buddhistischen Mönchen gelebt, da die allein erziehende Mutter nicht für ihn sorgen konnte. Der andere Junge lebte aus gleich Gründen bei einem bekannten alten Ehepaar, das allerdings krank ist und ähnlich wie die Mutter, täglich um das Überleben kämpft. Im folgenden findet ihr ein paar Fotos von der typisch kambodschanischen Landschaft, den Lebensumständen der Jungs sowie den Jungs selbst.

Today I went to the countryside with a couple of other German and Cambodian staff members to see two young boys and judge whether they would fit into the childrenshome. We looked at their current living condition and immediately decided to take the brothers Long and Dein (spelling is probably wrong) with us to Phnom Penh to live in the ChildrensHome. One of the boys has recently lived with buddhist monks as the mom was not able to take care for him. For the same reasons the other one lived with another old befriended couple that is sick and does also not have enough food. I put up a couple of pictures of a typrical cambodian countryside, the living conditions of the boys as well as the boys themselves.
